The Top 20
Here is a minimal packing list of Sarah's Top Twenty Items to bring.  We suggest you pack in a duffel with wheels, and/or a backpack you can carry with locks.  Remember to leave any gold, jewelry, and fancy clothing at home.  Only bring things you don't mind giving away. 
  1. Original and 2 photocopies of your passport good for at least 6 months.

    • One copy for Sarah with emergency contact information
    • Second copy (preferably laminated) to carry instead of the original
  2. Two forms of Student ID
  3. Credit Card (Mastercard is most widely accepted) or Cash for souvenirs, alcoholic beverages, laundry, e-mail, etc.
  4. Money belt to carry cash, credit card, copy of passport and student ID
  5. Medical kit with all your personal medications - hand carry on plane
  6. Dive Mask if you have a special one for snorkeling

  7. Bring 5 gifts to say thanks to those you’ll interview and new friends

  8. Journal and pens with waterproof ink (e.g. Bic)
  9. 30 medium size index cards for “social network” file
  10. Camera Gear

    • lots of film (I used more than 60 rolls in less than 3 weeks)
    • spare batteries
    • cleaning kit
    • underwater housing if available
  11. Day pack and large water bottle
  12. Flash light and batteries (Dive flashlight works best)
  13. Umbrella and light raincoat 
  14. Sunblock and bug repellant (e.g. Skintastic is good and strong)
  15. Pair of good walking shoes 
  16. Pair of strong rubber sandals with heel strap 
  17. Loose, cool long pants and long-sleeved shirts and socks
  18. Modest shorts and tops 
  19. Bathing suit, dive skin, and sarong
  20. Towel and toiletry items
